The Commewijne district is one of the oldest plantation areas in Suriname. On this boat trip you will visit the Commewijne district, known for its many historic plantations.
We leave in the morning from Leonsberg, where we cross with a traditional boat to New Amsterdam. Here is the historic open-air museum Fort Nieuw-Amsterdam. You get a tour of the complex and we then sail on to the former Rust & Werk plantation. The highlight of this boat tour is the beautifully restored plantation Frederiksdorp. On this former coffee plantation you get a tour, giving you an impression of what life and the plantation must have looked like in colonial times. On the way back you stop at the Johan-Margaretha plantation. Various crops are currently being grown on this plantation by farmers, including cassava, bananas / bacoven and peppers.
At the end of the afternoon we sail back to Leonsberg, where you might be surprised on the way by a visit from the dolphins!
